How to Tackle Big Projects at Your Newspaper
The challenges of a newsroom’s time commitments have increased immensely in recent years. Everyone is expected to be adept at the spectrum of news gathering – writing breaking news for the web and a more complete story for the print edition, taking a photo or video and posting it on the web, tweeting about a sports event or city council meeting, updating your Facebook page.
In this video/audio series, Jim Pumarlo walks you through how substantive reports in your everyday coverage may be “big” in terms of providing expanded, substantive stories for your readers. But they can be done without overwhelming your limited resources.
Jim spent nearly 27 years in two community newspapers in Minnesota – in Red Wing on the state’s Wisconsin border, and in International Falls on the state’s Canadian border. For the majority of that time, he steered the news coverage as editor. He is passionate about community newspapers and believes that community newspapers still play a vital role in today’s fractured media landscape.
