It’s safe to say that if you’re reading this, you probably use Google in some way, shape, or form. Google has expanded from being just a search engine to a full suite of online services. It’s a shame then that many people have no idea just what they can do with Google.

Here’s a hint: It’s a lot more than just searching for stuff.

1.    Reverse Image Search

Have an image but don’t know where it came from? You can drag and drop your image straight onto Google’s image search for it to do a reverse search for you.

By doing this, Google will give you any other site that uses the same image, as well as visually similar images. This is useful to check if anyone else is using your images without permission or to check where a certain photo was taken.

2.    Scientific Calculator

Need a quick calculation but you’re too lazy to use the one on your computer or your phone? Google has an answer!

By typing “calculator” into the search bar, Google will replicate a fully functioning scientific calculator for you.

3.    Instantly convert all your units

Want to know how many seconds are in a week? How about converting metres into feet or Celsius into Farenheit? Just type the conversion into Google (such as 47c into f) and Google will spit out the answer for you.

Google can make the following conversions:

  • Time
  • Temperature
  • Mass
  • Speed
  • Length
  • Area
  • Volume
  • Fuel consumption (Miles per gallon vs KM per litre)
  • Digital storage (Number of kb in a gb)

4.    Define words in incredible detail

If you add the word “define” behind a word, Google will give you a specific definition complete with examples, etymology, translation options, and even the popularity of the word over time. If you don’t have the time to crawl through a dictionary site, this can be useful as a quick reference.

Are these tricks life-changing? Not really. What they do is save us a little bit of time and simply make Google that much more valuable to us.
